(TRENTON) -
Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) released the
following statement Wednesday on Delaware becoming the 11th state with marriage
equality:
"I'm
ecstatic to see our neighbors to the south stand up for full equality for LGBT
families by passing marriage equality. The leaders of the Delaware legislature,
as well as Sen. Coons and Gov. Markell deserve our thanks and our gratitude for
their commitment to our constitutional values of equal treatment under the
law.
"With
Delaware becoming the 11th state to see marriage equality within its borders,
New Jersey continues to fall further behind in providing full equality and
justice to LGBT families. This reality is as disappointing as it is
unacceptable.
"To New
Jersey's same-sex couples facing terrible and legally enshrined discrimination,
I have one simple pledge: we will not rest in the fight to make marriage
equality the law of the land in the Garden State.
"To the vast
majority of New Jersey Republican legislators who are obstructing progress:
enough is enough. The far-right ideology of discrimination has no place in our
state or in our nation. The time has come to abandon that outdated ideology and
stand up for our state's families and fundamental constitutional values by
supporting marriage equality."
