Stop the Hatred

While reading Dan’s blog about my endorsement of Councilman Mapp for Mayor of Plainfield I read such a vile and hate filled comment that I had to respond by calling on all of our cities bloggers to take a stand against these hate filled comments. And I call on Councilman Mapp as someone who hopes to lead this city to do the same.

For this person; and I use that term loosely to refer to me as an “old boy” and knowing the hate behind referring to Black Men like that is disgusting. I have children and grandchildren, who I hope won’t have to continue to suffer through the type of hate and bigotry that I grew up with.

I worked my way up gaining respect each step of the way but to have to read trash like this in 21st century is crossing the line. Comments like this have no place in the 21st century.

I worked my entire life and career to get past this type of hatred and in this day and age I had hoped that we’d moved away from this type of nonsense but even during this past Presidential election someone went so far as to call my office and call me the “n” word just for supporting President Obama.

So what I’m asking is for us as a community to stand together and say enough is enough.

I respect everyone and I would like to get the same respect in return. I will not allow anyone to try and make me feel like less than a man. I was a man before I became a politician and I hope that my grandchildren can live in a world where cowards like this who aren’t even man enough to attach their name to their hate will be further isolated in the sad pathetic loneliness of their bigotry. People like this have no place in the 21st century.
