Transportation Authority Reform, Tougher Driver Cellphone Law, Converting Foreclosed Homes into Affordable Housing, Protecting NJ from Fracking Wastewater & Improved Domestic Violence Protections Top Thursday Assembly Agendas

            (TRENTON) – Reforming the state’s four transportation authorizes, tougher penalties for violating the state’s driver cellphone law, converting foreclosed properties into affordable housing, allowing mobile gaming, protecting New Jersey from radioactive fracking waste, improving domestic violence protections and a moratorium on virtual charter schools top Thursday’s Assembly agenda.

Highlights include:
·         Four bills to impose restrictions on employment, gifts and compensation for commissioners, officers and employees at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Delaware River Port Authority, Delaware River and Bay Authority and the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (A-1244-1245-1246-1247). The bills are sponsored by Paul Moriarty (D-Gloucester/Camden), Matt Milam (D-Atlantic/Cape May/Cumberland) and Ruben J. Ramos Jr. (D-Hudson).
·         A bill (A-1074/2199) to establish violation of the hands-free cell phone law as reckless under vehicular homicide and assault by auto statutes. It’s sponsored by Annette Quijano (D-Union), Paul Moriarty (D-Gloucester/Camden), Charles Mainor (D-Hudson), Albert Coutinho (D-Essex) and Gabriela Mosquera (D-Gloucester/Camden)
·         A bill (A-2168) aimed at transforming foreclosed properties into affordable housing sponsored by Jerry Green (D-Union/Middlesex/Somerset), Troy Singleton (D-Burlington), Albert Coutinho (D-Essex), Mila Jasey (D-Essex/Morris), John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) and Annette Quijano (D-Union).
·         Legislation (A-2575) to allow mobile gaming devices within casino hotel facilities. It’s sponsored by John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) and Ruben Ramos (D-Hudson).
·         Legislation (A-575) sponsored by Connie Wagner (D-Bergen/Passaic), Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) and Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) to prohibit the treatment, discharge, disposal or storage of fracking wastewater.
·         A bill (A-2899) sponsored by Gabriela Mosquera (D-Gloucester/Camden) to audit community response coordination to domestic violence.
·         A measure to impose a one-year moratorium on new virtual charter schools (A-3105) sponsored by Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. (D-Middlesex) and Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen).
·         A bill (A-2943) sponsored by Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-Camden/Burlington) to authorize the executor or administrator of an estate to take control of online accounts of deceased person.
·         A bill (A-1571) to improve teen driver safety by expanding requirements for special learner’s and examination permits. It’s sponsored by John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), Pamela Lampitt (D-Camden/Burlington) and Albert Coutinho (D-Essex).
·         Legislation (A-1902) sponsored by Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. (D-Middlesex) to require parents to notify school administrators if a pupil will be absent, and require schools to notify parents if a pupil doesn’t show up for school.
·         A bill (A-347) sponsored by Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) and Daniel R. Benson (D-Mercer/Middlesex) to require courts to issue animal protective orders against those found guilty of abusing animals.
·         A bill (A-353) sponsored by Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) to improve senior citizen services in concentrated communities.
·         A bill (A-718) to require the state to biannually distribute letters to school districts reminding them of the requirement to enroll resident students regardless of immigration status. It’s sponsored by Ruben J. Ramos (D=Hudson) and Annette Quijano (D-Union).
·         Legislation (A-720) to save taxpayer money by requiring direct deposit for all state employees by July 1, 2014. It’s sponsored by Ruben J. Ramos Jr. (D-Hudson), Matthew W. Milam (D-Atlantic/Cape May/Cumberland), Connie Wagner (D-Bergen/Passaic) and Annette Quijano (D-Union).
·         A bill (A-733) sponsored by Tim Eustace (D-Bergen/Passaic) and Daniel R. Benson (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) to bar health care facilities from discharging prescription medications into sewer and septic systems.
·         A measure (A-1083) sponsored by Annette Quijano (D-Union), Pamela Lampitt (D-Camden/Burlington), Celeste Riley (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) and Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) to require the school districts to distribute student loan repayment information.
·         Bills (A-1400-2891-2892) to help veterans find jobs. They’re sponsored by Gilbert “Whip” Wilson (D-Camden/Gloucester), Albert Coutinho (D-Essex), Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex), Herb Conaway, M.D. (D-Burlington), Troy Singleton (D-Burlington), Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer/Middlesex), Pamela Lampitt (D-Camden/Burlington), Patrick J. ·         Legislation (A-2105) sponsored by Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex and Celeste Riley (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) to clarify that criminal impersonation committed by electronic communications or Internet website shall be subject to criminal penalties.
·         Legislation (A-789) to prohibit first responders from photographing persons being assisted or disclosing photographs of such persons without their consent. It’s sponsored by Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex) and Herb Conaway, M.D. (D-Burlington).
·         A bill (A-925) sponsored by Celeste Riley and John Burzichelli (both D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) requiring schools buses transporting disabled persons to use flashing lights and establish penalties for drivers who fail to yield.
