(Trenton) - As part of a consumer victory compromise he helped broker in January, Assemblyman Paul Moriarty today announced that the New Jersey Lottery's new Million Dollar Replay game has officially begun.
"This is a great victory for consumers that will give lottery customers a second chance at a winning shot," said Moriarty (D-Camden/Gloucester).
Moriarty was the lead sponsor of legislation (A-647) approved by the Assembly that would have prohibited the sale of lottery scratch-off tickets after the top prizes have been won, a measure that had been opposed by lottery officials. However, after meeting with Lottery representatives, Moriarty announced that he was dropping his legislation in exchange for the lottery rolling out a new program that will give customers a second chance at prizes on losing tickets.
"My concern all along is that consumers were wasting their money on prizes that no longer existed. Now they will have a number of second chances. I think this is a great compromise that will help boost lottery revenue and give customers a second chance at a winning shot," added Moriarty.
The new program - Million Dollar Replay - allows any consumer who joins the NJ Lottery VIP Club and purchases at least $10 eligible, non-winning instant tickets, to submit their losing tickets into a yearly drawing for $1 million.
Each quarter the lottery will hold a semi-finalist drawing to select 100 winners to receive a prize of $250 each. All 400 semi-finalists will be entered into a Grand Prize drawing for a chance to win one of fifteen prizes ranging from $10,000 up to $1million.
Moriarty urges anyone interested in the program to visit the Lottery's Web site at: http://www.state.nj.us/lottery/vip/3-2_million_dollar_replay.htm
