GREEN: AID FOR PLAINFIELD

(PLAINFIELD) – Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Jerry Green (D-Plainfield) yesterday welcomed $250,000 in extraordinary aid (from the Dept. of Community Affairs) and $199,401 in municipal aid (unfrozen by the Corzine administration) for the City of Plainfield:

“This is money that was promised to Plainfield to benefit its property taxpayers, so I’m pleased the administration has done the right thing.
I, along with the help of Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs and Bibi Taylor - Director of Administration & Finance, worked with the administration to get this done because denying Plainfield this money would have had a disastrous impact for the city, whether through increased property taxes or severe cuts in vital services.
Money promised to Plainfield should be delivered to Plainfield, and I’m glad to see the correct thing will be done here."

A Letter from the NJ Department of Transportation / Rahway

December 15, 2009
Dear Assemblyman Green,

On behalf of Governor Jon S. Corzine, I am pleased to inform you that the following community in your district has been selected to receive an allotment from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) Fiscal Year 2010 Transportation Fund as part of NJDOT’s Transit Village Program:

Rahway City, Continuation of 2004 Streetscape (Phase II). This Project is Streetscape Phase V- $470,000

NJDOT is committed to principles that complement smart growth and allow transportation to be a method for shaping and guiding that effort statewide. NJDOT’s Local Aid Transit Village Program supports the establishment of mixed-use neighborhoods with a strong residential component around a transit facility. This allocation was made possible because of the community’s commitment to revitalization and redevelopment to encourage the use of a transit facility which resulted in their designation as a Transit Village.

Thank you for your support of this program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (609) 530-3686.

Sincerely,

Sharon Shinkle Gardner
Assistant Commissioner
